Criminal History and DCJS Records

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services keeps fingerprint-based criminal history records. These are not court records. DCJS files include arrest data, charges, and case outcomes tied to fingerprints. They are not public. You cannot get someone else's DCJS record through FOIL or any other channel.

To get your own criminal history from DCJS, use the Record Review program. You submit fingerprints at an approved location. The cost is about $77.75 total. Results take 7 to 10 business days. You can pick a suppressed version that hides sealed records, or an unsuppressed one that shows all entries. Allegany County does not have as many fingerprinting sites as larger counties, so you may need to travel to find one nearby.
